How marketing reporting can help you drive your online business to the right direction?

Performance marketing dashboard: and if it gave you the insights you need, quick and easy?

Because data is your online marketing performance’s best friend

Marketing reporting to visualize data easily

An online marketing dashboard: are you asking yourself if it’s really worth the trouble? I’d say yes, and not only because I’ve fun while building my Data Studio template!

If intuition might sometimes be good when it comes to marketing strategies, relying on data is always the best bet. And where to find data? In Google Analytics, Search console and co. Though, this raw data might give you headache – hours spent to retrieve pieces of data from reports, scattered among your tools.

That’s where marketing reporting and performance dashboards can save you. Your data is organized into customized reports, adapted to your business objectives and easy to read.

Digital marketing KPIs to make conscious decisions

Use data to optimize where it makes sense

But now, what to do with this custom marketing reporting dashboards? Conscious marketing decisions! Do you see impressions increasing, but CTR decreasing? Well, your meta titles and descriptions might need some SEO optimization. Are some products being purchases more than others, over and over? You might have found your top sellers to build revenue on.

You got me: marketing reporting dashboards can help you optimizing on channels, products or content pieces which really matter to your users. And thus, to allocate your budget and marketing efforts… not at random.

And if you don’t have the time to play with Data Studio templates, I’m here. I’m a fan of marketing reporting dashboards and I made one already, which should fit to your E-commerce business. On what KPIs to base? I tell you more below.

What KPIs for online marketing performance?

What is a KPI in marketing? The essence of our marketing reporting

I was scared of this acronym at first too. Digital marketing KPIs – key performance indicators, for the intimates – are actually useful metrics to filter data, based on what you want to see. SEO marketing, Google Ads or content performance? We’ll choose different KPIs like CTR, ROAS or page views to make sense of each channel’s insights.

Which KPIs matter when measuring marketing performance?

Make your own salad on a common basis. I told you that we can use different digital marketing KPIs for each channel. It shouldn’t overwhelm you, since there is good news: some of them are common across marketing activities.

You’ll want to track marketing performance at three main stages of your users’ journey – awareness, engagement, decision or purchase.

Most useful KPIs for your business can be chosen based on the users path: impressions and CTR when they discover your site in the search results. Conversion rate when they engage with your content. And revenue when they decide to buy.

What areas to monitor?

Marketing reporting focussed on your business’ key channels

SEO, Google Ads, E-commerce, content: they are the main areas of a website, and also on which I focussed on my ready-to-use Data Studio template.

All of them can reveal very important insights about your users. You might see things you wouldn’t have thought of!

What’s most important to you? If you’re an E-commerce business or a service provider, priorities in marketing reporting will be different. Let’s customize our online marketing dashboard.

How often to track marketing performance?

Online marketing dashboard to be used without moderation?

Here again, it will really depend on your business. Traffic size, revenue, industry and competitors: if the business is big and the industry evolves quickly, you might want to review your data at least on a weekly basis. In peak periods for your business, you could even benefit from daily insights. To act quickly upon data changes.

On the whole, I’d recommend to take a look at your Data Studio dashboards at least bi-weekly.

Resources also play a role. If you have dedicated SEO and SEM managers, it’s easier to delegate marketing reporting tasks. And to get feedback more often. But even if you’re a smaller company, it doesn’t mean you’re left alone with marketing reporting… The Indigo Cactus is also there to support you.

I like data, for real. Let me help you with monitoring your online performance!
